Using A Coffee Press Effectively

Most of the coffee connoisseurs think that the Coffee Press is the best way for brewing a great cup of coffee. Also known as Plunger Pot, Press Pot, French Press, or Cafetiere a Piston (in France), the Coffee Press uses a cylindrical glass carafe and a stainless steel mesh filter to separate the coffee grounds from the water. The grounds stay at the bottom and the strained coffee stays above the filter, ready to pour.

The Coffee Press creates a smooth, pure coffee flavor using a simple but effective process. You simply have to pour hot water into the carafe, add coarse ground coffee directly into the water, then install the lid/plunger assembly. After the coffee has been brewed for about 3-4 minutes, press down the plunger. A fine mesh screen forces the grounds to the bottom and your coffee is ready to enjoy.

The best thing about French press is that it is more portable and self contained than other coffee makers. The Travel Mug variations made of tough plastic instead of the more common glass, having a sealed lid with a closable drinking hole, is most commonly used by the hikers and backpackers, not wishing to carry a heavy metal percolator or a filter using drip brew. It can also be used in place of a tea infuser, to brew loose tea. However, the tea would continue to steep even after the plunger is depressed, causing the tea remaining in the press to often become bitter and undrinkable.
